World Asthma Day

All about the world asthma day (WAD)

World Asthma Day (WAD) is an annual event organised by the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA), in collaboration with healthcare groups and asthma educators, to improve asthma awareness and care around the world. In 2021, the event held on Wednesday, 5th May. However, from 2022, WAD would be celebrated every first Tuesday in May.

The first World Asthma Day was held in 1998. It was celebrated in more than 35 countries in conjunction with the first World Asthma Day Meeting in Barcelona, Spain. Since then, participation has increased and the Day has become one of the world’s most important asthma awareness and education events.

GINA chooses a theme each year, preparing and distributing materials and resources for the Day. GINA also maintains the World Asthma Day Internet Headquarters where materials and resources are posted for downloading and a complete listing of activities around the world is constantly updated.
